State of North Carolina is Hiring an Engineer I Near Wake, NC

*** Salary Grade: NC16 /Recruitment Range - $76,846 - $82,754***
This is an extended posting through May 24, 2024, for Engineer I positions in Division 5. Multiple Engineer I positions will be filled in Wake, Durham, Franklin and Vance counties. Interested applicants will only have to apply one time to be considered for all Engineer I vacancies in each respective county during this time frame. 

Position serves as an entry level Engineer. Applicants should have knowledge of the principals and practices of Engineering with the ability to learn highway maintenance methods, techniques, construction standards and specification, and operation of field and office engineering instruments. This position leads employees and coordinates reviews of technical plans and drawings. This position may be required to work nights and weekends as needed for emergency and planned operations in all types of weather conditions and on uneven surfaces and slopes.
 
Successful applicants will need to have the ability to:
Ability to plan, organize, and schedule daily tasks. Ability to make independent decisions and the willingness to work collaboratively towards group decisions. Ability to listen and communicate effectively with co-workers, departmental personnel, contractors, developers, local and state officials, and the public. Ability to prioritize and delegate project assignments. Ability to interpret plans, provisions, specifications, policies, procedures, and regulations and apply this information in reviewing of construction drawings.Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects experience that demonstrates the following:
 
  • Experience using computers or electronic tablets
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of concepts, practices, and theories used in engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise, and organized documents and reports addressing basic engineering concepts and facts.
Additional Expectations:

The selected applicant will be expected to safely and legally operate a motor vehicle. Safety toe shoes are required.

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
